Studio & Business Bootcamp

Before you start rolling your eyes and muttering “I KNEW she’d get around to selling something!” – I want to make it perfectly clear that I do not make one cent from teaching this class. All fees are paid to the PPA and that’s where they stay.

Twice a year, on a Monday, almost 100 studios across the United States open their doors to students for the day, hence the term “Super Monday.”

If you are local to Dover, Ohio 44622 – consider coming to my studio and taking my class on Monday, October 24th from 9AM – 5PM.

You do not have to be a member of the PPA to register. The fee is $99 if  you register by October 5.  After that, it is $120, payable at the door, but you need to check with me first, as I am limiting the students to 8.

Studio & Business Boot Camp

Course #OH02

Christine Walsh-Newton, CPP

Are you new to photography and considering opening a studio? Let award-winning PPA/PPO photographer and published author Christine Walsh-Newton guide you through the confusing myriad of things you need to know in order to open your doors. From Ohio business requirements, accounting basics and pricing concepts, to the lighting, posing and post-processing basics, you can learn it all with this boot camp!

  • Learn the business skills every professional needs, from calculating cost of goods sold to determining the best pricing model for your work. You’ll also see how to report income and expenses accurately for tax purposes.
  • Learn basic one-, two- and three-light setups in the studio as well as how to use a light meter and color calibration targets.
  • Learn how to photograph models in basic headshot poses, mid- to upper-body poses and full-length poses. (Family and baby posing will not be covered). All shooting will be in the studio. (Outdoor lighting will not be covered.)
  • Learn basic post-processing using Adobe Photoshop (and Adobe Photoshop Lightroom if time permits). You’ll also see how to narrow down client proofs, present them for maximum impact, and ready them for presentation and sale to your clients.

This is not a class in how to use your camera. All students should be familiar with how to photograph using manual settings.
